Even thought it's a a bit dated, the foundations of this book are still great. I read it upon a recommendation from a friend...and then immediately purchased copies for my entire leadership team. We've already implemented a good number of the approaches Sewell lays out in the book -- we are big fans!

A must read for every business owner

None of the ideas in this book are ground breaking, but the author does a great job of explaining how they translate into loyal customers for your business. There is no abstract psychological babbling lots of similar books have. The author clearly shows the reader what his points are, then uses case studies from both his business and others to reinforce the concepts.
Every business owner should have this book, and I'd recommend buying copies for all the employees as well. It will pay off in the long run.

Best Customer Service Book yet!

Sewell really practices what he preaches.

I had made a visit to two of his dealerships in Dallas; after seeing his operation I HAD to read his book. Both his customers and his employees are fanatically loyal - for good reason.

Carl's view of customer service is very different; in fact he does not have (or need) a 'customer service' department. Instead they create systems to avoid problems in the first place, and each employee (associate, really) is empowered to solve the few problems that do come up on their own.

It's an easy read and a real eye opener.

About the Author

David Damrosch is Professor of Comparative Literature at Harvard University. He is a past president of the American Comparative Literature Association, and has written widely on world literature from antiquity to the present. His books include What Is World Literature? (2003), The Buried Book: The Loss and Rediscovery of the Great Epic of Gilgamesh (2007), and How to Read World Literature (2009). He is the founding general editor of the six-volume Longman Anthology of World Literature, 2/e (2009) and the editor of Teaching World Literature (2009).

Kevin J. H. Dettmar is W. M. Keck Professor and Chair, Department of English, at Pomona College, and Past President of the Modernist Studies Association. He is the author of The Illicit Joyce of Postmodernism and Is Rock Dead?, and the editor of Rereading the New: A Backward Glance at Modernism; Marketing Modernisms: Self-Promotion, Canonization, and Rereading; Reading Rock & Roll: Authenticity, Appropriation, Aesthetics; the Barnes & Noble Classics edition of James Joyce’s A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man and Dubliners; and The Blackwell Companion to Modernist Literature and Culture, and co-general editor of The Longman Anthology of British Literature.

Peter J. Manning is Professor at Stony Brook University. He is the author of Byron and His Fictions and Reading Romantics, and of numerous essays on the British Romantic poets and prose writers. With Susan J. Wolfson, he has co-edited Selected Poems of Byron, and Selected Poems of Beddoes, Hood, and Praed. He has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, and the Distinguished Scholar Award of the Keats-Shelley Association.

Susan J. Wolfson is Professor of English at Princeton University and is general editor of Longman Cultural Editions. A specialist in Romanticism, her critical studies include The Questioning Presence: Wordsworth, Keats, and the Interrogative Mode in Romantic Poetry, Formal Charges: The Shaping of Poetry in British Romanticism, and Borderlines: The Shiftings of Gender in British Romanticism. She has also produced editions of Felicia Hemans, Lord Byron, Thomas L. Beddoes, William M. Praed, Thomas Hood, as well as the Longman Cultural Edition of Shelley’s Frankenstein. She received Distinguished Scholar Award from Keats-Shelley Association, and grants and fellowships from American Council of Learned Societies, National Endowment for the Humanities, J. S. Guggenheim Foundation, and Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. She is President (2009-2010) of the Association of Literary Scholars, Critics, and Writers.

Awesome Anthology

I ordered this book for my class on British Romanticism.
This book has so much history of literature, and pieces of the actual literature in it!!
I absolutely love it.

WARNING - the pages are about as thin as an old Bible's, so don't make notes in it with sharpie. Highlighter should be fine, but it bleeds through pretty easily. And be careful turning pages.

Picturebook Makers: Buy This Book

10 stars. I will buy this book when the coin is in my pocket. Picturebooks are not children's illustrated books. Picturebooks are a singular genre, people who make picturebooks are picturebook makers. This hybrid realm of the book arts is new and developing according to the authors. Think of Chinese iconography, where each character tells a story. Children learn about the world with pictures first, then words. In an increasingly digital world, we will learn the skills of "looking, appreciating and interpreting visual material, including its design." Just as we did when first viewing a reindeer on a cave wall. Today's picturebooks can be metafictive, wherein the book fabric and materiality contribute to the storytelling, and there are "mischievous subversions of the normal conventions." I put holds on as many of the examples shown as I could find in our library system. Although there are well-loved/known picturebook makers in the global arts, not all are translated, or available for an American audience. I was thrilled to find a plate of a book by Shaun Tan, whose "The Arrival" took our breath away when we first touched it at Everybody Reads! in Lansing, MI. With a quick thorough history of the visual arts and printing in the front of the book, this is a keeper with value for a lifetime. Be warned: the text is small. Wish it was available as a digital book, so I could read the words with ease.

FOUR STARS INSTEAD OF FIVE BECAUSE...

Reviewer LINDA ROBINSON(Michigan) did a superb & insightful review on this book giving it FIVE STARS. She mentioned FONT SIZE near the end of her review & looks forward to the book being available for KINDLE & ebooks so she could read the book with ease. For one, given the subject of this book: the authors should have known better! USE OF EMPTY SPACE is a given in ADVERTISING...but not at the sacrifice of the MESSAGE. The FONT SIZE for the TEXT & for the ILLUSTRATIONS borders on the absurd and to me is a very strange & major flaw for a book otherwise of such timely insight!
I highly recommend that you read Review by LINDA ROBINSON(Michigan) in conjunction with my red flag re font sizes here. Apparently she did not purchase the book but she is very conscientious in her review. I DID purchase the book. And I need to know what it says...so I am suffering along even using a MAGNIFYING GLASS at times & writing profuse notes in the space the authors left available by robbing the text & notes on illustrations of FONT SIZE.
Given this warning...that you may want to wait for this book to be available for ebook reading, the authors have done a brilliant job & the book is superb.

A history of picturebooks

This books surprised me with a brief history of picture books from the late 19th century through the decades of the 20th century and concludes with some considerations for the genre in eboook formats. I was enchanted by the illustrations from various countries and time periods. That said, the font size is very small and it would be easier to enjy the text included if it weren
t too small.

Dr. Steven Buser has taught principles of psychiatric diagnosis to medical students and residents in family medicine. His effort to provide an easy to remember schema led him to develop the idea of diagnoses along a spectrum long before DSM-5 introduced this concept. DSM-5 Insanely Simplified borrowed heavily from Dr. Buser's earlier efforts while making sure to incorporate specific changes that characterize the DSM-5. In addition to his busy psychiatric practice, Dr. Buser is the Publisher of Chiron Publications and is the co-founder of the Asheville Jung Center.

Dr. Len Cruz has been editing and writing for years. In collaboration with Dr. Buser, he wrote the manuscript for DSM-5 Insanely Simplified. He admits that over the years his tastes progressed from Archie Comics and Mad Magazine to Freud for Beginners. Naturally, the opportunity to co-author a serious book on DSM-5 and ICD-10 utilizing cartoons was irresistible. In addition to his practice of psychiatry, Dr. Cruz is the Editor-in-Chief of Chiron Publications and is the co-founder of the Asheville Jung Center.

Luke Sloan was a 5th grade student in Asheville, NC when he completed the illustrations for this book. When he's not drawing, Luke enjoys playing soccer, reading books, snow-skiing, and just plain having fun!

About the Author

Luke Sloan is a Senior Lecturer in Quantitative Methods and deputy director of the Cardiff Q-Step Centre of Excellence in Quantitative Methods Teaching at the School of Social Sciences, Cardiff University. Luke has been teaching quantitative methods all his academic life to a range of audiences including first year undergraduates, masters level students and PhD students. He has also delivered intensive training workshops for academic colleagues and external organisations (such as the International Baccalaureate Organisation).

In 2013 Luke was awarded the Cardiff University Enriching Student Life Award for Most Effective Teacher as a direct results of his innovations in research methods teaching.

Alongside his teaching, Luke applies his quantitative knowledge to tackle the challenges of big data specifically, how social media data can be made useful for social enquiry and investigating how behaviour in the virtual world reflects the real.

Highly recommended

"Lovely" is clearly not the correct attribute for a book on the diagnosis of mental illness. But this book does come in very handy, both for the seasoned clinician who might need quick reminders, and for younger colleagues, as well as the generally interested reader, who wants to get a comprehensive view into the otherwise complex labyrinth of mental diagnoses.
Similarly to the loosening of distinct categories evident in DSM-5, the author goes further in deconstructing the otherwise too firm diagnostic categorizations.
And the Jungian chapter at the end is a bonus!
The book is highly recommended, and, in fact, makes for enjoyable reading.

Mr. Russo delivers again

If you're reading this story, you must have already read Necromancer: Awakening like me and were waiting for more. This isn't the sequel we've all been waiting for yet, but it is a great, bite-sized prequel. Mr. Russo does a great job of fleshing out some of Mujahid's backstory without making it feel like he's just regurgitating some notes he has buried on his desk somewhere.

Mujahid is such a great character, and he really gets to shine in this story. But honestly, Father Dominic nearly steals the show - he's absolutely the perfect character you'd love to hate but really can't help but love.

Can you read this story if you haven't read Necromancer: Awakening first? I'm not sure, but probably. This is a completely self-contained story.

In conclusion, it's a short read, but well worth your time.

(As an aside, the cover art for this book is great... kudos to the artist)

What would you do when those you trusted betrayed you?

From Nat Russo, who wrote Necromancer Awakening, comes this short story that covers some back story on the main character (Mujahid Lord Mukhtaar) of the aforementioned novel that comes after this story. I'm not going to give any plot points away from the story as I think it'll ruin the adventure for potential readers, just know these things: it's tightly written, clear and to the point, and both characters (Mujahid and Father Dominic) are flushed out and complete characters, and it is a true joy to watch the characters interact with each other.

Now, to those who come across this story and are interested but are worried that you might not follow what is going on because you haven't read the novel that was published beforehand, do not worry, I haven't read it either (I met Mr. Russo on twitter, after the release of his book) and still thought the short story was great. In fact, since this is supposed to be somewhat of a prequel, it might do well to read this first and get a taste of what Mr. Russo has to offer, then dive into his book. I've added his novel to my reading list.

Either way, this author has a knack for writing his character Mujahid and it is easy to tell the author loves the character as he is written with such affection (which is incredibly refreshing) and pride that it adds a entire layer to the whole story. I highly suggest this short, especially if you are the type that likes well thought out fantasy worlds with a hint of ours thrown in.

Great addition to The Mukhtaar Chronicles

Majahid is on a mission for revenge, heading for Dar Rodon to make the Arinian priests who killed his friends pay. So the last thing he wants to do is get stuck with an Arinian priest who insists on accompanying him there. But he just can't shake this priest without calling attention to himself (something he wants to avoid since he's a banned Necromancer), so he reluctantly lets the priest come along.

I don't want to give too much away, but overall I enjoyed this short read. Majahid definitely grows as a character in this novella, and he and the Arinian priest's interactions were highly enjoyable. For anyone who has read Necromancer Awakening, this is a great addition to the story. I wouldn't really recommend this to anyone who hasn't already read the main story, though, because while this short read enriched the main book, anyone who isn't familiar with it would have a hard time following the story.

Each lesson ends with a set of multiple-choice review questions similar to those appearing in the MEF-CECP exam.

Content in this edition of the study guide has been expanded, restructured, and revised to align with MEF-CECP Certification Blueprint C. Core lessons have been updated to align with recently published MEF standards (6.2, 10.3 and 45) that refine and augments Carrier Ethernet service definitions and attributes.

About the Author
Jon Kieffer (MEF-CECP) is a principal technical writer working for Fujitsu Network Communications since 2001. Previous to that, Jon taught software engineering at the University of Hull, U.K., and mechanical engineering at the Australian National University. Jon holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees in mechanical engineering and has authored 12 refereed journal articles and more than 30 conference papers in the fields of mechanical and controls engineering. The MEF recognized Jon as an outstanding contributor for contributions to the MEF-CECP program in 2014 and again in 2015. In 2015, Jon received the MEF Marketing Committee Editors Award for coediting the MEF white paper Understanding Bandwidth Profiles in MEF 6.2 Service Definitions.

Ralph Santitoro is a MEF founding member, board member and Distinguished Fellow who regularly contributes to projects in all MEF committees. Ralph created the MEF's Carrier Ethernet Professional Certification Program, co-developed the MEF-CECP exams and co-authored the industry's first MEF-CECP exam study guide. Ralph was editor of MEF 6, the industry's first Ethernet Services Definitions specification, and authored the MEF's Ethernet services primer with over 100,000 copies downloaded. Ralph has been a catalyst behind the MEF's Third Network Vision transforming the organization's scope to define multi-layer, multi-domain, Network-as-a-Service (NaaS) automated via lifecycle service orchestration (LSO). Over the past 10 years, Ralph has lectured and conducted seminars at over 70 international events and has published over 30 papers covering Carrier Ethernet, NaaS, Virtual Network Services, Network Virtualization, SDN, LSO, Cloud Computing, QoS, and Cybersecurity. At Fujitsu, Ralph develops solutions using Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and Software Defined Networking (SDN) that virtualize and orchestrate network functions to deliver on-demand virtual network services.

i think this would be a good guide for the MEF

i think this would be a good guide for the MEF. However. DO NOT get the kindle version.It will only let you read it from the kindle app, and not the kindle for pc app or windows store app. I got frustrated trying to read it on my ipad mini. so I returned to amazon

Good book for certification, but I personally would also recommend to read the actual MEF publications/papers for some topics starting chapter 6
