FINALLY!!!! The book I've been searching for

I think I've bought every book available on kiln construction. They explain the methods of construction, how to lay bricks, show every imaginable kiln design, but nothing concrete. Finally Joe Finch has written THE book!! Complete plans for 3 specific kilns. A gas fired kiln, a combination gas/wood kiln and a wood fired kiln. Plans are specific and clear. Diagrams, materials list, tips and more. Joe is also quick to reply via email to any questions you might have. As soon as the snow melts I am finally going to build the gas/wood fired kiln!!!

Excellent guide

Having never built a kiln before this book is an invaluable source for how to construct a pottery kiln. The only reason I gave it four rather than five stars is that it is a British book and the metric system and refractories used are based on what is common in England and different to what is commonly available in America but the techniques and methods can be used for American products with success. I am very pleased with the content as there is no other book that is so clear in explaining step by step, brick by brick how to construct a kiln.

This is a great book for students and professionals alike. Starts with the very basics of water chemistry and covers almost everything that one could think of. What sets this book apart from other chemical hydrogeology books is the extensive integration of PHREQC and the many links to free useful applications and graphing tools. This first book by the author of Solitude has been long out of print. Examining the basic assumptions of his profession, psychotherapist Storr argues that the essential goal of man is self-realization, the drive toward maturity that is inextricably linked with "the development of his relationship with others," and that the purpose of psychotherapy is to further that development in collaboration with the therapist. Although his own training is Jungian, Storr is remarkably candid in conceding that Freudian and Kleinian analysts achieve roughly the same degree of success. But too much of the book is given over to unstartling pronouncements, such as his proclamation that immature parents generally raise immature children, or to dry reiteration of post-Freudian commonplaces. Moreover, Storr's analysis of homosexuality as "a failure of maturation" has long since been superseded by other views. The same might be said of some of his observations about the etiology of schizophrenia. Finally, although the introductory chapters are lucid and crisp, the bulk of the book is written in an academic style that wears out its welcome in a few pages.

This is a very clearly written book. Its also one of the most coherent integrations of Jungian and psychoanalytic ideas ever written. I recently ordered another copy of this book as my copy is becoming a bit worn. Worn it may be but the content is far from being worn. Anthony Storr was a brilliant writer and makes the deepest insights about the workings of unconscious processes readily available to anyone who can read English. A brilliant synthesis of Jungian and psychoanalytic object relations theory.
