About the Author
Dr. Prabir Basu, founding President of Greenfield Research Incorporated, a private research and development company in Canada that specializes in gasification and torrefaction, is an active researcher and designer of biomass energy conversion systems. Dr. Basu holds a position of Professor in Mechanical Engineering Department and is Head of Circulating Fluidized Bed Laboratory at Dalhousie University, Halifax His current research interests include frontier areas, chemical looping gasification, torrefaction, biomass cofiring amongst others.

Professor Basu also founded of the prestigious triennial International Conference series on Circulating Fluidized Beds, and a private R&D company, Fluidized Bed Systems Limited that specializes on design, training and investigative services on fluidized bed boilers.

Professor Basu has been working in the field of energy conversion and the environment for more than 30 years. Prior to joining the engineering faculty at Dalhousie University (formerly known as the Technical University of Nova Scotia), he worked with both a government research laboratory and a boiler manufacturing company.

Dr. Basu’s passion for the transformation of research results into industrial practice is well known, as is his ongoing commitment to spreading advanced knowledge around the world. He has authored more than 200 research papers and seven monographs in emerging areas of energy and environment, some of which have been translated into Chinese and Korean. He is well known internationally for providing expert advices on circulating fluidized bed boilers and conducting training courses to industries and universities across the globe.

Very good introduction to Biomass Processing technologies

Very good book as a primer to such technologies and fundamentals of biomass characterization and handling.

You may get disappointed if you are looking for detailed technical-economical information for feasibility studies, but clearly it is not the advertised proposal of the book anyway.

Easy reading, comprehensive to anyone with good 'high school level' technical/scientific background.

Eh - Not My Cup of Tea...

Eh - I know this is the gold standard - but... I am not a huge fan (sorry, I know!!!!) - It's hard to follow, and doesn't have clear instructions throughout the book. For example, they never tell you the names of the open strings! I had to look it up online (E, A, D, G - in case you're wondering!) My daughter is a very visual learner (age 10) - and she is just starting out with violin lessons. Her teacher recommended this book - and so I got it - but it leaves a bit to be desired by both my daughter and me. I ended up buying her some other books (including a book of easy violin Disney songs) - and she was so much happier. This book may be more suited to very young learners who cannot read - as the book is more for the adult teacher who already knows how to play than the student (at least that's how it seems to me).

First half of the book was useless

After my girls finished Essential Elements for Strings: Book 1 with EEi (Violin), their teacher recommended this book. But when we got it, the first 1/2 of the book was already far too easy for them. I also didn't like the fact that it doesn't actually teach additional skills, the way the EE books do. They each learned a song from this book for their recital, but "learned" much more from Essential Elements for Strings - Violin, Book Two: A Comprehensive String Method. There are a few nice pieces in here, but if I could go back, I'd save some money and buy this used or borrow it from someone.

Must for all parents

This book is so helpful. A rich resource for ALL parents. It's even better if you connect with the Empowered to Connect April simulcast and see videos and get tips/strategies to implement the concepts. Children do better when you are aware that their behavior (good or bad) reflects their needs, and often the adults around them need to be aware and help the child meet those needs if they need the child to make a change in their choices. This book helps adults process how to approach and interact with children while identifying their needs, addressing the fear or safety need, or the physical need (hunger, thirst, exhaustion) or the emotional need (broken, alone, scared, sad, mad, angry) and helping the child gain skill in appropriate reactions or behaviors. It takes a lot of processing and practice, but so worth it. There are also videos online that help make the concepts come alive.

A Must-Read Parenting Book!

I don't often rave about parenting books because everybody has their own style of parenting and every kid is different. There is a reason there are thousands of parenting books on the market. However, this one stands alone! I only got this because it was required reading for our adoption agency, but I am SO glad it was.

Though there are times when I wished the author had gone into greater detail (especially on the nutrition chapter), this book does a great job of providing parents with MANY tools that I feel every parent can benefit from. It is geared toward adopted/abused children, but I really felt like it pertained a lot about my biological children as well. This book can give you a sense of control especially with stubborn, strong-willed children. I speak from experience. I don't know which is more helpful, the tools offered by this book or the sense of having options. I don't think you can go wrong with this book!

Highly Recommended to Me - and I Recommend to You

This book was recommended to me by my adoption caseworker and by other adoptive moms in a public forum. I strongly recommend it! We are about to adopt siblings and, even though they don't have any current behavior concerns like hoarding or RAD, this book has still been helpful in parenting any children who have experienced trauma. The book has lots of examples and lots of specific ways to help connect and support your children. I'm about halfway through the book now (I read half and then re-read half with a pencil, making notes and underling parts I wanted to remember) and the chapters on "Felt Safety" and "Teaching Life Values" have been the most helpful so far - well, that our struggles are not ours alone - others have had them and many have surpassed them. Karyn Purvis is an expert in the field - and after reading this book, I understand why her name is so well known. Her work is realistic, down to earth, and filled with hope. If you are adopting or work with foster or adopted children, this is a great read.

- Compassion is key
- Focus on nurturing and structure / connecting and correcting

About the Author
Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa was born in Königstein, Germany in 1966. He followed his passion for zoology by studying in Gießen and Göttingen (Germany), where he received his PhD in 1996. He worked as a PostDoc in Pittsburgh and Tampa (USA) and as assistant researcher at the Universities of Bielefeld and Braunschweig. Currently in the Department of Evolutionary Biology at the University of Bielefeld, he is about to take up a position as the Curator at the Zoological Museum at the University of Hamburg.

Peerlessly Detailed Survey of Comparative Morphology

If you're looking at this book, you probably already know what you're in for. This is a tremendously detailed text on comparative morphology that seeks to trace the origins of organ systems from the original metazoans on downward. Each chapter takes a separate organ system -- nervous, circulatory, excretory, and so forth -- and discusses how it is structured with respect to the phyla (ALL of the phyla). It then concludes with the author's analysis of the implications of the morphological discussion for evolution -- which features were original to a shared ancestor (thereby indicating relationships between the phyla), and which are instead likely just the product of convergent evolution.

Not being an introductory text, this book will probably be incomprehensible if you do not already know a fair bit about all the metazoan phyla and some of the competing theories regarding their origins and differentiation. But that being said, it's not overly complex otherwise, and is a very interesting read. The illustrations, moreover, are well done and plentiful.

If I had a criticism, it would be that the text gets a little dull and rote, mechanically following its organizational scheme without as many digressions and charming anecdotes as I'd like. But you can't have everything. There's really no other book out there in English, to my knowledge, that is as detailed on this subject. So if you are at all interested in comparative morphology of the phyla, this is the one for you.

A must have zoology book

Andreas Schmidt-Rhaesa did an excellent job in writing this textbook. The idea of organizing the chapters in organ systems is innovative and very useful. One can realize that the author is an experienced teacher in zoology - its very well written and the numerous tables in which the type and structure of the organ systems in different animal taxa give a quick overview.
It combines all recent morphological studies and discussed them in the light of recent phylogenies. Always open minded, never dogmatic it gives a balanced view of common hypotheses about the evolution of the different organ systems.
I use this book nearly daily and I just have the paper back edition and think about getting the hardcover.
This book earns attention, its excellent as a reference and for teaching zoology.
Hopefully there will be a second edition!

This book was suprisingly helpful, covering issues of knowing the difference between your "needs" and "wants," and becoming conscious of the tradeoffs required in accepting the best "whole package" decision that meets your needs.

Excellent, but very detailed

I thought this would be my usual easy, 2-hour read a book. It reads more like a college textbook as far as details. Yet,reading slowly and truly taking the time to understand what he is explaining really helped me with my life. In only the first few pages I found myself realizing WHY I made a lot of bad decisions. Still have a couple of chapters to go, but it is a recommended book if you seem to find yourself saying "What do I do?" about most of your decisions. Or even a single important decision. This book will help you determine why you make most of your decisions and how to change that to make more sensible, logical, and most importantly decisions that make you feel good about yourself and confident.

Very Helpful

This book is dense with information. The book will help you figure out why you make the decisions you do and point you toward the processes needed to made better decisions. Read this book -- it has valuable lessons in it that should be taken to heart.

"Spring had indeed arrived."

Let me start off by saying that I have been a fan of Naruto for the past eleven years; from the time I first witnessed it in the English Dub, to long after the end of the Fourth Great Ninja War. Having seen all of the latest films and kept up with anything that related to the story, I'd say I have a pretty firm understanding of the Naruto universe. With that being said, it should come as no surprise to the reader that I was waiting ever so patiently for this translation to be made available, so that I could learn more about Kakashi and what led to his decision to become the Hokage.

I do not wish to give too much away for anyone that has yet to read the story, but I will say that anyone that's read the manga will enjoy this book. The action and sequencing is fast-paced, and the dialogue is exactly what you'd expect from a Naruto book: at times, witty and comedic, but then melancholy and a touch melodramatic, but in a very good way. The author does a phenomenal job of making the reader feel like they're actually there with Kakashi, spreading chakra throughout his or her body, narrowly avoiding danger right alongside the Sixth Hokage. If only for the story, this book is a perfect ten out of ten if you are a Naruto fan.

I did, however, have one major concern with this book, and that was the translator's knowledge of the Naruto universe. Jocelyne Allen did a pretty good job of translating the book as a whole, but if a person has a full understanding of a language, translating a text to their native tongue should be a pretty straightforward task, so it's hard to get something wrong there. However, as a longtime fan of Naruto, I noticed a few things that were off, and because I am such a devoted fan, I was bothered every time I noticed them. Some Jutsu names were off, primarily Shikamaru's Shadow Strangle Jutsu (in the novel, "Suffocating Darkness"), and Choji's Human Boulder ("Human Juggernaut", seriously?). Ten-Ten was also, in the one line where she is referred to using a gender-specific pronoun, wrongfully identified as a " he." I myself had a profound issue with the translator constantly putting a character's last name before their first name, and while I understand that in Japanese the last name goes first, if a book is being written or translated into English, I would prefer it if somethings were kept right. Had the book been written out as though it were an episode from the English-Dubbed version of the show, I would have been much more pleased. There are still more errors within the text, but I do not wish to make the book seem bad. If the reader is as much a fan as I am, they might feel slightly bothered by the problems, but still, I cannot stress the importance of remembering that any errors a reader encounters should not be blamed on the book as whole, but rather the translator, who aside from the aforementioned mistakes, does a brilliant job bringing this story to life in the English language. If it weren't for the errors, this book would have a perfect five out of five from me.

Overall, if the reader is a fan of the series and longs to find out what happened in the blank period between chapters 699 and 700, then they should definitely check out this book and the rest of the novels that will be released shortly in English. This is one experience no Naruto fan worth his salt should miss out on.

Good read for the dedicated fan

I didn't read the description thoroughly enough and thought this would be a Manga, only to be surprised to find it is a novel. The fact that this is a novel allows the reader to see more into the mind and point of view of Kakashi. While it does have some elements of a fan-fiction or a filler episode, I still enjoyed the story, mainly just hearing Kakashi's thoughts during a stressful mission. The villains are pretty typical, as to be expected. This is mainly a good read for the bigger fans who just enjoy the overall world of Naruto like myself.

I really enjoyed the book for what it is

I really enjoyed the book for what it is. Kakashi is one of my favorite characters so reading a book about what happened to him before he became the 6th Hogake was very enjoyable. I have no complaints about the actual story but some wording errors were slightly annoying. It doesn't distract too much from the book so I still recommend it.

About the Author
A.R. Bernard is the spiritual leader of the New York Christian Cultural Center in Brooklyn, which, in addition to serving its members, conducts aggressive outreach programs in the community, including several schools for inner-city children, literary groups, and special ministries for the elderly and incarcerated. Bernard serves on the board of directors of the Brooklyn Public Library and the New York City Economic Development Corporation. His sermons are broadcast nationally on television and radio. He also lectures frequently at universities, churches, and Fortune 500 companies. He lives in New York with his wife, Karen, and their children.

The key qualities in men sought by women, explained from a place of kindness

The minefield of modern day dating and relationships is befuddling, and particularly in a world with so many competing viewpoints and media saturation. Cutting through all of the jargon Bernand focuses on four traits, maturity, decisiveness, consistency, and strength. Through his experience, these four factors are detailed as being the traits women seek, as well as the foundations for the makings of a responsible male.

In retrospect, the four traits appear simple enough, however each of the four involves self-discipline, which appears to be the overarching theme of all four factors. The development of each of these four factors requires accurate self-reflection and self-discipline; you cannot fake maturity, decisiveness, consistency or strength. Fortunately faith, family, and community can all serve to help in these qualities.

This book will give the clueless a better clue as to what a woman is really looking for in a life partner, and start some on the path to developing a more mature self.

Loved it.

Self help is not my go to genre I've read a few from Iyanla, Joel Osteen, even pastor (happiness is a way of life) but this was by far my favorite. It was a quick read, filled with helpful information and kept my interest from start to finish. I'm not married but I hope to be and this book provides a very sobering/realistic view of the institution. I loved the personal stories from pastor and the women it help in visualizing the outcome when these principles or lack there of were applied. The four traits are also very appropriate for women and I feel equipped with some useful tools to help improve my daily living.

I got my book on May 3 just as promised. This book is well written and I'm sure everyone will appreciate the information and counseling we and receiving with each page. This book is for all men and women that are eager to learn how we can live a better life by not being so selfish but being more selfless. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, Pastor A.R.
